Why Patients Choose
The Movement

There's no shortage of places to see a podiatrist for custom orthotics in Perth. Here's why patients keep choosing us.

We don't do general podiatry.

The Movement specialises exclusively in custom orthotic therapy. It's not a side service — it's everything we do. That focus means deeper expertise, more refined processes, and better outcomes for the people we see.

"Think of custom orthotics like glasses. You don't think twice about wearing glasses every day — they just help you see better. Orthotics work the same way. You wear them in your everyday shoes, and they help your body move the way it's supposed to. That's it."

We start by actually understanding you.

Every assessment begins with a conversation. We want to know what's bothering you, what you've already tried, and what you're hoping to get back. From there, we take you through a comprehensive biomechanical assessment:

Alignment assessment

What does your foot and ankle alignment look like? Neutral, pronated or supinated?

Joint range of motion

Are there restrictions? Or do the joints have hypermobility?

Muscle health assessment

Are the muscles tight? Are there tender spots?

Video gait analysis

Once your body is in motion, things can look different. How are the feet positioned? Is there any early heel lift? Is there excessive pronation? These are the things we hyper-focus on with the video gait analysis.

Footwear assessment

What shoes do you wear? What can be done to make your current shoe wardrobe work better for you?

We use 3D scanning, not plaster casts.

To capture your foot's exact shape, we use a 3D digital scanner rather than the plaster cast method. The result is a more precise, more comfortable capture of your foot's unique structure and a better foundation for the orthotics we build around it.

The prescription is what makes them custom.

Anyone can make an insole. What makes custom orthotics genuinely custom is the prescription — the specific clinical instructions that determine exactly how the orthotic is built for your feet. Every pair comes with a detailed prescription done by Dr Sam Ong, specifying the corrections, materials, and modifications designed for your individual biomechanical findings.

We explain everything.

You have come to us with a problem. Our job is to help you understand the problem (what is it actually?), the root cause of the problem (what is the culprit?), and how a biomechanical solution focusing on re-alignment and re-distribution of load fits in the picture long term.
